begun on Highway 65 and opened for business in 1970. Over the years, the list of financial products and services was expanded as membership grew. Likewise, the office building was expanded to accommodate additional employees needed to serve the growing membership.
Fairfield Federal Credit Union (FFCU) was established in 1958 by International Paper Mill employees when they elected a board of directors and submitted a petition to be recognized by the National Credit Union Administration. The fledgling credit union opened with two full-time employees and one part-time. As a cooperative financial institution, Members actually owned the credit union, as they do to this day.

As membership grew, along with the need for more convenient services, FFCU added a branch in the Watson Chapel community at the intersection of US-79 and I-530. In 2006, FFCU responded to continued growth in Jefferson County with another branch built on US-270 near its intersection with I-530 in White Hall.
In 2007, FFCU reshaped their long-range vision and set a goal of becoming the credit union of choice in Jefferson County and beyond. To that end, they expanded membership eligibility to include the entire community of Jefferson County, which means anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school or owns a business in Jefferson County – including immediate family members – is eligible to join. This important community focus led to dramatic membership increases.
When you join Fairfield Federal Credit Union, you become part of a financial cooperative that includes about 11,000 Members. As a Member of FFCU, you are an owner, not just another account holder, and you have full access to all the convenient, money-saving products and services we offer.

Additionally, when you are a Member-Owner, your immediate family members* are eligible for membership. Each Member has one vote in the FFCU’s organizational affairs, such as the election of the Board of Directors. Your membership in FFCU is a benefit that follows you throughout your lifetime – even if you change jobs, retire or relocate – as long as you maintain a minimum of $5 in a Savings Account.
*Immediate family is defined as: spouse, child, step-child, sibling, parent, grandparent or grandchild.
